Ben Handley

Ben started his racing career in 2005 competing on a Yamaha R6 in his home town of Elvington followed by a handful of Auto 66 meets that season.  He stayed with the same club throughout 2006 competing and winning both the 600 Rookie and the Formula 600 Championships, which raced over 15 rounds at Elvington Park, Croft Circuit, Teeside Autodrome and Cadwell Park whilst gaining lots of experience and recognition including a vast amount of National and local press coverage.

2007 set Ben with a newer and tougher challenge.  He was offered a Honda CBRR 600 to race in the ultra competitive Maxxis Supersport Cup Championship, run within the main British Championship.  Having only raced at two of the circuits used in the British series Ben knew it would be a steep learning curve but naturally jumped at the chance.  The opening couple of rounds were real eye openers with 60 riders competing for only 40 slots on the grid and Ben was disappointed not to finish within the time quota.

By the third and fourth race at Silverstone and Oulton Park, he was becoming more accustomed to the bike qualifying well and finishing 10th in the cup series and 32nd overall picking up 12 points for his efforts.  Following that he finished 5th at Snetterton and got his first podium finish at Mondello Park in Ireland.

Knockhill, in Scotland scored him more valuable points and by the second visit to Oulton Park he had moved up to 7th overall in the cup series.  The next three races brought some disappointment as he failed to finish, but the final two rounds brought more success along with more points however he did not manage to improve on his 7th overall position.

Ben was happy with his achievements in his first year in this series and is now even more determined, focused and eagerly awaiting the start of the 2008 season, with confidence that he can build upon his career and finish within the top three of the championship.
